The Beaver Colony is for children aged from 6 to 8 years old. Before 1982 the earliest a child could take part in Scouting was when they joined Cubs at 8. However, it was realised that there was a need for something for younger children and Beavers were formed. |

The Beaver motto is:Fun and Friends; to have fun and to make friends.
Activities will vary considerably due to the age range of the children. Many activities are games and which teach the children communication skills, sharing and that, win or lose, they still participated as part of a team. They are also given challenges and problem solving exercises. This broadens their experience and helps prepare them for later challenges whether at school, home or in the outside world. Craft and drawing are also encouraged by making various items throughout the year. The children are asked to help, share and enjoy what they do.
We had been talking about starting a Beaver Colony for about nine years, because talking about it is a lot easier than doing it.
We finally got round to doing something about it, and the first meeting of our new Beaver Colony took place on 3rd November 2000. We did at first wonder whether or not it would work. The fact that we have now got a full Beaver Colony and a waiting list suggests that we might be doing something right.
Anyone interested in putting their child on the waiting list for Beavers or helping run Beavers, should contact Sarah Nuttall, Beaver Leader.
I
promise to do my best,
To be kind and helpful,
And to love God.
